Collaboration of the Faculty of Psychology with Aplaus The Lifestyle
Medan, Friday, December 13, 2013, students of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Prima Indonesia in collaboration with Aplaus The Lifestyle held a Social Action Movement with a Psychological Approach to help victims of the eruption of Mount Sinabung. The status of Mount Sinabung, which is still at the Alert level, has caused people living around the foot of the mountain within a radius of 5 KM to be evacuated to a safer place. The evacuation period, which initially ended on December 8, 2013, was extended until December 21, 2013. This raised the spirit of the Psychology students of Universitas Prima Indonesia to hold a series of social actions to help ease the psychological burden experienced by the evacuees.
This visit was conducted at the Surbakti Village Refugee Post with a total of 445 evacuees consisting of 62 elderly people, 217 adults and children, and 55 toddlers. During this visit, students from the Faculty of Psychology, Prima Indonesia University prepared a series of psychological approaches in the form of play therapy for children, counseling, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) therapy.
The initial entertainment held was a magic show, followed by play therapy with traditional games such as catching chicks, newspaper puzzles, and graphic tests for child refugees. Counseling and EFT therapy were given to adult refugees in need with the intention of easing the psychological burden they experienced. The children looked so enthusiastic in participating in each game that had been prepared, smiles and laughter were also seen on the faces of parents and children. At the end of the activity, in welcoming the Christmas celebration, students of the Faculty of Psychology UNPRI presented Santa Claus to distribute gifts to children who were victims of the Mount Sinabung eruption disaster.
